Apple iPad VGA Dock Adapter Cable

Personally, I like the iPad VGA cable the best, because I can connect it to a monitor, my projector in my office, and my HDTV in the living room. It also has a fantastic signal quality. Make sure your TV has a VGA connector before you buy it, not all do.

Component cables allow you to view your iPad on your TV in HD, even if your TV doesn't have a VGA connector. It's definitely the best second choice.

Apple Composite AV Cable for iPad

The composite cable provides you with the lowest grade of video - but it's better than nothing, if you're TV doesn't support component or VGA!

Which apps work with the iPad Video Out?

Well, not all apps work with the video out, by default. Many awesome apps do though, like Jump Desktop, AirVideo, and Netflix. Below, I've included a short list of some apps that I've personally tested and know that they work with the iPad VGA Video Out.

Keynote
AirVideo
NetFlix
Whiteboard
GoodReader
Photos
Jump Desktop
Projector!
Movies
These are apps I've personally tested with the VGA out on the iPad.

If you're the jailbreaking type...

Jailbreaking your iPad can bring about a ton of possibilities, just like jailbreaking an iPhone. Along with the joys of apps like SBSettings, the Cydia store, has a wonderful app called DisplayOut.

DisplayOut lets you mirror your iPad on your TV! Every single app that will run on your iPhone will now be able to be displayed on your iPad. No longer are you held captive to using the video out for just a few dozen apps. It's awesome.

DisplayOut for iPad

DisplayOut for iPad is available for a buck-ninety-nine on Cydia. It supports the use of the VGA, Composite, and Component cables - if you didn't know, that's all of them. It puts everything that's on your iPad's display onto your TV. No questions asked. It just works. It even has a toggle you can add in SBSettings.

If you're a developer, DisplayOut allows you to easily take videos of your apps for demos, YouTube, etc. Not only will you be able to record the actual app, but also the Springboard - you'll be able to capture everything, including your app launching.
